Dad to have surgery Friday 7/11/2014.

The doctors seem to have decided Dad can have his surgery tomorrow, Friday.
If I understand right, it is to have his bladder scraped out, a stent put in to improve flow, and to drain fluid from his kidney.
It will probably be in the morning.
Depending on how scan says things look inside, they'll go in from the front or maybe from the back, which is worse.

The new solitary room Dad is in because of his urinary tract infection is painted bright beige, and there is a fairly large window.  So Dad has had no problems with claustrophobia.
Dad was very emotional today, but was talkative, and not in any pain.

Dad does not want phone calls.  It is hard for him to reach the phone, and he does not really like talking on the phone anyway.

Mom still feels like she is capable of driving.  After all, she states, she has not had a car accident in many years.
She also is resistant to using taxis, even though she understands she has enough money to do so.  It makes no sense to her when she has a car she can drive sitting in the driveway.
In general, she has recovered a very great deal.  However, sometimes her memory is still bad, and sometimes it seems almost OK.
I am considering trying to sign her up for a driving evaluation test designed for those recovering from serious injuries like strokes.  However, I wonder if she would accept or remember any results.  If it turned out that she was OK to drive, it would be a big relief to Dad and me.
Plus, she may resist the idea of being tested for something she already feels she can do.

Surgery delayed until next week, when Dad's white blood cell count can be improved.
