Mom is back home!

Mom is eating normal food, and sleeping at home for the first time tonight since 10/12/2013.
Dad is somewhat over protective and nervous, but I can tell he is very glad Mom is home.
Mom is also very glad to be home.

A nurse is to visit tomorrow (Saturday 12/07) to evaluate how Mom is doing, and if anything else is needed for her.

Mom left the rehab center at about 1PM today with Dad.  They were able to do a bit of shopping, and then come home.
Mom has a rental wheel chair that she is to use when going shopping or other places.  At home she will continue to use a walker.

Mom is eating normal food again, but has to be careful.  It is easy for it to go down the wrong tube.  She also is drinking normal liquids, but to avoid trouble should only have small sips and not too much at a time.

Mom has quite a few more pills than in the past to take every day, but still less than many take.  I think less than the number of vitamin pills I take a day.  However, Dad is nervous about keeping them all organized and understandable.

In general, Dad seemed quite nervous.  He is taking seriously the responsibility of caring for Mom that the rehab staff had been doing.  He was very commonly asking Mom what she was doing when she would get up or start to do something.  His tone could sound accusatory, but to me it sounds more full of worry and urgent concern, as well as loud enough to make sure Mom hears.

Mom's hearing seems worse than in the past.  However, she does not understand that yet.  She seemed to think Dad and I were trying to exclude her from the conversation, when we were talking normally and did not realize she was not understanding us.

Mom enjoyed reading through the various get well cards she received.  She had not had all of them together at one time before.  I think she got a better appreciation for how many sent something.  She hopes to start working on Christmas cards soon so she can express thanks to many.

In addition to the nurse visit tomorrow, Mom has a appointment with her regular doctor on Thursday.  The doctor will also remove her feeding tube.  It has not been used for a long time, and is finally going to be removed.  Mom expects to be in pain when that happens.  The tube occasionally has been giving her discomfort, so the momentary pain will be worth it.

I suspect there will be quite a while of adjustments while my Mom and Dad adjust to the new arrangements of Dad cooking and Mom not being as mobile in the past.  However, they are both very thankful to be together.

Happy Thanksgiving a week and a day late.
The Chief Physician has continued to blessed us this Christmas season.
