Sally Abbey is recovering from a heart attack.

Key word: recovering

Yesterday, 1/27/2011, was a great encouragement to me.
I was able to recognize improvement in my mother's condition.  My father has seen improvement Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as well, but I did not recognize it clearly.

Mom has a long recovery ahead of her, and I am sure from her perspective it will get worse before it gets better. A lot of tubes, intrusions by doctors, and interruption of rest.  However, praise God that she is now more aware of such things, because it means she is recovering.

The test results came in showing evidence of a heart attack. The damage in the heart muscle is not severe. The hospital is managing my mother's blood thinner medication level carefully. Also part of her lung is collapsed, which makes the pneumonia a bit more problematic.

Yesterday Mom was able to be awake enough to recognize me, and talk with me. She also learned that she is in the hospital. She was able to jokingly tell Dad that he would not be rid of her that easily.  Cousin Sean visited after having checked Mom's improved status with the hospital. It was a great encouragement to Mom. She was pleased that Sean and I finally met face to face for the first time, and she was able to talk about some of the amusing interactions she and Sean shared. Praise God Sean arrived at the time in Mom's sleep & medication cycle that they could have such a beneficial visit.

Mom is tired and fitfully sleeping most of the time it seems. She is not allowed to drink liquids, and is restrained so she does not pull out tubes in her sleep or ignorance. So her discomfort is understandable, but hard to improve.

Thank you for your prayers to the mighty and loving Father,
Howard
