Mom's status is good.

Mom seems physically good.

Aspects of her memory are good.  She remembers some things very well.   Some things she remembers only sometimes.  For instance she told it was Friday as part of a conversation.   Then five minutes later she was not sure if it was Friday or Saturday.

She found out that the order to discharge her has not yet been written.  However the nurse assured her that she could be released the same day it was written.

Mom wants to go home,  but did say she would recommend the place.

I give God thanks this Thanksgiving.

Mom to return to house on 12/3 if all goes well

The rehab staff checked the house out with Mom, and she and the house got the OK.
A few minor adjustments will be made to the house.  Mom has been scheduled to come home on next Tuesday.

Mom to visit home

Dad called me with an update.
Mom is getting better step by step.

Tuesday, 11/26, she is scheduled to visit with a therapist for a home evaluation.

Mom well, slowly recovering strength.

Other members of the Abbey side of the family have much worse issues right now.

  • Uncle Bob Abbey has a MRSA infection on his toe.  If it does not heal, worst case the doctors might amputate.
  • Aunt Vera Crane is recovering from her troubles, but still in some pain it sounds like.
  • Landon, Aunt Vera's grandson, is out of the hospital with his collapsed lung, still recovering.

Mom is OK.
She switched rooms on Thursday, the 14th.  Hopefully she will move again soon.
The test results of her urinary tract infection status should come back Monday.  Hopefully it gives her the all clear to no longer be isolated.  Then she can leave her room for activities, group walking exercises, meals, etc.

She seems easily tired.

Mom, Sarah Abbey, in rehab now, mostly recovered from urinary tract infection

Mom is out of the hospital and in rehab again.
Thankfully they still had room for her at her preferred location, Church of Christ Care Center.

Mom is tired a lot. She took a half hour nap after lunch, then woke up. She ended up sleeping most of the afternoon.
It is rare for her to sleep in day.

She is eating well; She can have honey consistency foods and liquids.
She is talking clearly.

From Dad: Mom moving to rehab in isolation

Mom sounding better, sleepy.

Mom is no longer tied down,  and had a good visit from Dad and Sean.
She was sleeping by 7:30p.m., and her roommate says she was sleeping much of the afternoon.
Mom awoke when I took a picture,  and talked briefly before going to sleep again.   She sounded much better.

From Sean: Mom much better, able to eat!

She is doing much better than yesterday. She had the swallow test and passed. She has been able to eat on her own. They puree the food to a "honey thickness". They are guessing at this point she will be able to go back on Thursday to the rehab center. She likes being able to taste food again.

Mom in hospital with urinary tract infection.

Mom has urinary tract infection.
Today Mom's speech is not understandable usually.   Once in a while I'm able to make something out.

Mom is tied down so she will not get out of bed.   She was constantly trying to,  because she wanted to go to the bathroom.  We tried to tell her she could not get up and just go in bed,  but she kept struggling.

Mom's mind seems partly there.
She recognized my Dad.   Dad asked if she knew who he was.   She answered that he is her husband.

Her mouth is often open,  so her tongue likely will dry out again.

The hospital has no female regular rooms available tonight.  So even if Mom was ready, she would still be spending the night in the ER.

She is giving big yawns once in a while.
So when and if she stops struggling,  I have good hope that she will sleep well.

Mom at emergency at McLaren.

Mom is acting strangely, so the rehab center is taking her to the hospital.

Dad is headed there now.

He called Aunt Vera who tried to reassure him that it might be nothing.

I told Dad that I would head over there in the afternoon, as I figured
it would take them a while to figure out what is going on.
I plan on heading to church and asking for prayer.
Dad said by that time they might have moved Mom back to the rehab
center.

We will see.

Thanks again for all the prayers in the past, and your current prayers.
God is awesome, powerful, comforting, but also has plans of His own.  Sometimes they are to get our attention because he is a jealous God.  Sometimes they are more complex than we can understand.

He reigns.
May Dad and Mom be able to endure what He has for them.
